Happy Friday!

Important Items

·         Thank you to all the families who joined us for Meet the Teacher Night on Tuesday.  It was great to see everyone!

·         Parent Council Meeting – This Wednesday, September 19th at 6:30 pm in the Library.  Everyone is welcome!  Parent Council is an integral part of our school community.  Not only do they organize special events like our Christmas Lunch and Family BBQ in June, but they organize fundraising, make decisions about special projects (ie. Last year it was additional trees being planted on the yard) and provide invaluable parent input on various subjects over the school year to School Administration.   It’s also a very good way for parents to make connections with other families within our school community.  Please consider joining.

·         Emergency Drills – As part of our normal school routine we will be running occasional Fire, Extreme Weather and Intruder/Lock Down Drills throughout the year.  Please discuss with your child/ren that the purpose of these is to have everyone—staff and students—prepared in an emergency situation.  Younger students may be frightened when we start and talking about the drills ahead of time both at home and at school helps to relieve some anxiety for them.  Thank you.

·         Annual Soccer Tournament is Thursday, September 20th.  Students must be dropped off and picked up at the Packham Road soccer fields.  Please find attached a copy of the schedules and the permission form in case your student has lost theirs.

·         Please find attached information from the Stratford Fall Fair organizers.  There are lots of fun, family-oriented activities going on next weekend.

Things you need to know:

·         VERY IMPORTANT FOR BUS STUDENTS!!  The bus routes have been tweeked due to some safety and time concerns.   Pick up and drop off times HAVE changed!  Please go to the “Bus Planner Web” parent portal to check the new route times and bus routes.  www.ourschoolbuses.ca  Please see the attached information page from the Transportation Office that was sent home with your student earlier this week.

·         Meet the Teacher Night – Tuesday, September 11th from 5:00 – 6:30 pm.  Pizza and drinks are sold from 5:00-6:00 pm in the gym.  Meeting the Teachers in the classrooms is 5:30-6:30 pm.  Just a reminder that this night is very informal and meant for students to show off their classroom to parents and for parents to make a quick connection with teachers.  More formal interviews will be held later in the school year.  Flyer is attached with pizza pricing.

·         Scholastic Book Fair next week Monday to Thursday!  This is an awesome place to purchase books for those students excited to start reading again and proceeds purchase new books for our very own library!  Students will be able to purchase books starting Monday at lunchtime.  The Book Fair will be open all next week until Thursday at lunchtime and also during the Meet the Teacher night for purchases!

·         Opening Mass will be on Wednesday, September 12th at 9:30 am at St. Joseph’s Church.  All families are welcome to join us.

·         Our Parent Council will be hosting their first meeting on Wednesday, September 19th at 6:30 pm in the school Library.  All parents are welcome!  Our Parent Council is an amazing group who work hard to enrich our students’ and parents’ time here at St. Joseph’s with many fun filled events and provide our school with additional educational resources.  We strongly encourage any new parents to come out and join in as it is a wonderful way to meet the other families in your school community and become involved in your child’s education.

A warm welcome back to our families! Other than the rain this morning it has been a wonderful start to the 2018-19 school year. I had an opportunity to visit each of the classrooms and certainly felt how warm and welcoming the students and staff are here. Other than myself we have a number of new faces on staff. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Mr. Culliton, our Custodian for his years of service to the staff and students in the St. Joe's School community. We wish Mr. Culliton the very best in retirement. I introduce Dave Garrick as our new custodian as well as Barb LeSouder as our evening custodian. Dave and Barb bring with them a wealth of experience in maintenance and will be welcome additions to the St.Joseph’s team. It is also my pleasure to introduce Ms. Karlee Achilles to our grade 4/5 classroom. Ms. Achilles will be in our grade 4/5 until Mrs. Brickman's return. We welcome Ms. Achilles to the St.Joseph’s School Community.
